Happy New Year! Thank you to all of you who have supported Handylittleme throughout 2017. You have made this little blog a happy place for me and I promise to keep adding free knitting patterns for you to enjoy throughout 2018!
So New Year.... new you?! I'm trying to avoid reading those posts I see about being a new person in the new year etc, what is wrong with the old you? I intended to start the year off with a bang! Making to-do lists and getting right into my work, but the start of the year gave me an ear infection, so all I was good for was watching Peaky Blinders and moaning about how much my head hurt. But now I feel better and I'm back on those needles, making more hats!
I wanted to get right into my box of Lion Brand thick and quick chunky yarns that I ordered before Christmas and design some thick cosy squishy hats to keep the winter chill out. I also found a pretty yarn from Rico, called melange chunky which knits up in soft stripes. Take a look and let me know what you think in the comments! Have a great January :)
Here are 6 new free hat knitting patterns for you to enjoy >>
This has to be my favourite pattern out of the new hats added this month, it is so soft and squishy and I just love wearing it. It is really easy to make because it uses chunky yarn (Lion Brand thick and quick in Fisherman 099) and is knit on size 10.00mm (US 15) circulars. If you are a beginner, this pattern will be easy for you, as it uses knit and purl stitches and will introduce you to decreasing and shaping.
This is also a really lovely hat pattern to work on, the moss stitch hat will require a little more concentration than the others as if you get distracted by watching Lucifer, then you run the risk of purling two stitches instead of K1, P1. If you are a beginner, this pattern will introduce you to the moss stitch and to decreasing and shaping. This was knit with the gorgeous Lion Brand thick and quick in Fisherman (099) and Grey Marl (154) and on size 10.00mm (US 15) circulars, it will take you about 1-2 hours to make. I made the pom pom with my trusty pom pom maker using a combination of the two yarns.
This hat has been made with a really pretty yarn that had been sitting on my shelf for a good while. It was one of those yarns you buy because you love it, but you're not quite sure what to do with it because it's almost too pretty to use! But alas it needed to be turned into something and became this super soft and cosy hat. With subtle striping throughout, it really is a lovely warm accessory. Make one of your own with the gorgeous Rico Creative Melange in 001 I used two strands together to knit it, as it needed to be chunky.
This super chunky hat has been knitted using a delightful rust coloured yarn called 'Spice' from Lion Brand (thick and quick no.135). I wanted to design and make a hat that would be a no-brainer to make while watching a movie or TV show. This hat knitting pattern is really easy and would be perfect for a beginner knitter.
This chunky hat knitting pattern is made using Lion Brand thick and quick in wheat (402) and size 10.00mm (US 15) needles. It knits up quick, in about 1-2 hours and is really warm and cosy to wear.
This messy bun hat knitting pattern is really quick to make, as you don't have to add extra inches to the top of your hat and a pom pom. Made with chunky black yarn and knit on size 10mm (US 15) circulars it was really easy to make up. The only tricky part is when you finish the hat, be careful not to pull the closing stitches too tight, as it will be difficult to pass your ponytail through the opening. It is really great though, for running or walking your dog on cold mornings!
