Hello, October!

October 13, 2016

My favourite season is here and I have been enjoying it from the comforts of my parents house in the UK. With the cold crisp and sometimes sunny weather, I have become more than enthusiastic about starting new knitting projects and finishing old ones. So many colours and yarns to be found here, I have treated myself to a new Rowan pattern book, yarns from Rico and Sirdar, plus new packaging for my Etsy shop from Paperchase. I just love the creative vibes I get from being in the UK, the colours of the changing leaves, the countryside walks, exploring castles and of course reading British design magazines.

The fall colours I am in love with right now, range from greens, blues and teal to browns, creams and burnt orange.  The autumnal colour palettes are best found from nature, with thick chunky yarns used to make hats and scarves for the colder months.

Take a look at these wonderful fall images and free knitting patterns......

Inspirational colours this season include; greens and blues.

Go for textured yarns in stunning colours, like these neutral colours mixed with a bright green. Greens are mixing well with dark greys and teal blues. Chunkier yarns are also a firm favourite with knitters as large chunky knits are still really popular. Yarns like Rowan big wool is one of my go to yarns for the autumn/winter.

If you are looking for a great beginners knitting pattern for a scarf, then this pattern is for you! Take a look at this infinity scarf pattern that can be knitted with various textured chunky yarns. I used Rowan big wool for most of it, adding in a mohair green yarn to give a strip of colour. Click on the image to go to the pattern page.

Perfect for those fall walks, these knitted boot cuffs look great! Wear them on autumn days when you take a walk through the park. Made with a textured yarn, they are an easy make for the beginner knitter. Click on the image to view the free knitting pattern.

Pumpkins! The one thing I really love about October is that pumpkins are everywhere. Make your own mini pumpkin with this free knitting pattern. The pattern is easy to follow, making it perfect for all knitters. Make many in various fall colours and decorate your home, or give away to friends. They make great little decorations, I have some in my living room. Click on the image to view the free mini pumpkin knitting pattern.

As the parks and gardens around us become alive with fall colours, take a walk and enjoy all of the beautiful scenery. Even better when you can wear your Barbour jacket, boots and hand knitted scarf. Say hello to the crisp air......
