Looking for some fashion articles today I was browsing through the trends and news on Vogue.co.uk and found a beautiful post on Couture trends for Spring/Summer 2015. The floral fashion is full of colour, tactile embellishments and bold prints.
Looking at the bold line drawing style prints on a Victor and Rolf black and white floral dress made me want to sketch in my journal and make my own flower garden (on paper!). I have taken a long break from sketching and feel it's time to go back to my sketchbook and work in my favourite medium of fine liner and watercolour. I have a messy illustration style and I love continuous line drawing as a technique. Going back to nature in my sketchbook has resulted in some rough work that was so much fun to do!
I can remember on my degree course the amount of drawings that had to be completed in a week and how I used to put similar pressure onto my own students. It can be hard to have the 'creative feeling' to produce work when you are under pressure. It is very different when you just doodle and play with your pen for fun. Looking at the back to nature Couture just made me want to start drawing. These pieces were particularly beautiful:
Here are some photos of my back to nature sketchbook pages. I was using some postcards that I gathered from a visit to the V&A in London a while ago. Their fashion collections are so amazing and I would love to go and see the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit that is on. If you live in London or are visiting you will have to check it out.
I will strive to make time to sketch in my journal / sketchbook more often, as it is so relaxing and nice to switch off and just be creative. I'm always on Photoshop and learning more about it everyday, it's good to just go back to drawing with my hands!
